For London Bridge Station and the surrounding area, artist Amy Broch created a changing series of Feel-Good artworks to help restore hope and revive optimism, with the ethos of creating joy bombs, an artistic equivalent to photo bombing.

Commissioned by Team London Bridge to boost the moral of local residents and commuters, the station and streets became alive with large scale window vinyls and uplifting messages stencilled on pedestrian walkways and pavements throughout the London Bridge area. 

Images of JOY Bomb mascots with brightly coloured fun embellished backdrops, holding signs containing uplifting quotes and messages -  aim to lift passers by spirits and inject their day with energy, humour and positivity.

Joy Bomb mascots also delivered personal messages of love and appreciation to the homes of people nominated by their friends or family - recipients were Joy Bombed!

“My artwork aims to provide a therapeutic release for people, each and every day is important, and I would like to make people feel as happy, loved and appreciated as possible - I build my joy bombs with the aim of filling people’s hearts with tiny joy drops”.

 "As a way to lift someone’s spirits, sometimes all it takes is a few positive quotes or words of encouragement to immediately turn someone’s day around. Whether it’s your lifelong best friend or a stranger you pass on the street, taking a moment to deliver a positive message can have a long-lasting effect on the well-being of both individuals".

JOY Bomb London creates site-specific interactive installations that transform ordinary spaces into mini-worlds – playful explosions of sunny, squishy, furry, rainbow-filled delights. The artist draws from childhood nostalgia, pop culture and the irreverent contents of her shimmering, candy-coated brain. Her work provides opportunities to explore, connect and laugh.

JOY Bomb London’s creative mission is to celebrate FUN for FUN’s sake and to make memorable moments happy ones.

In the installation at Mass General Hospital, JOY Bomb London seeks to infuse these vital elements into the hospital environment, radiating positivity and care to all who encounter it.

Mass General Hospital is not merely a medical facility; it's a place of transformation, where healing extends beyond physical ailments and our exciting collaboration represents this creative intersection where art and healing meet. 

Inspired by the hospital's commitment to compassionate care and the resilience of its patients, our colorful wall vinyl features a cast of JOY Bomb characters that encapsulate the power of positivity and serve as messengers of hope and happiness.

They are a reminder that even in challenging times, there is room for laughter, connection, and a shared sense of humanity. 

Through vibrant visuals and heartwarming messages, we aspire to uplift the spirits of patients, families, and medical staff alike and create a space that transcends the clinical and instills a sense of wonder, offers moments of solace, and ultimately infuses the space with a little extra JOY.

This December, JOY Bomb London (artist Amy Broch) is back and inviting Londoners to peel themselves away from the cold, grey streets and heavy skies of 2020, to press their noses against the warm glass of the JOY Bomb purple pocket of the universe. Broch has created a playful art installation where whimsical characters become alive and interact with the public, to create joy bombs, an artistic equivalent to photo bombing.

Drawing inspiration from childhood nostalgia, pop culture, and the irreverent contents of Broch's shimmering candy-coated brain, this pop-up encourages the public to connect and enjoy a little silliness and laugh away the worries that 2020 brought them. This limited-time-only pop-up art installation on London's prestigious Brook Street offers a welcome break from reality. It's blueberry spirit, and helium-light delights whisk the viewer away to a friskier place: a world where fruity desserts nestle into pink and purple fur, balloons are super-sized, and lilac reigns supreme.

Many Scientists believe that a good laugh is a break for your brain; it can restore hope and revive optimism. The drive behind each multi-sensory installation to date is to make the memorable moments happy ones.

Evoking a feeling of happiness, “All I want for Christmas is… JOY" complies with the social distancing measures in place across London throughout December. Offering locals the chance to step outside their homes and experience an art installation exploding with holiday spirit.

JOY Bomb London was created by whimsical gangster and emerging conceptual artist Amy Broch after her husband Sean was diagnosed in 2018 with ALS. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a neurological disease that involves the nerve cells that are responsible for controlling voluntary muscle movements such as walking and talking.  Learning that happiness was linked to better treatment outcomes and longevity for ALS patients was a big moment. Suddenly, the colourful, playful installations Amy had been creating and experimenting with for years had a greater significance - JOY Bomb London was born, and its creative mission became FUN for FUN's sake.  

Proceeds from every installation support the Healey Center for ALS in memory of Sean, who passed in May of 2020. It is the largest hospital-based research program in the world and supports early stage trials of promising ALS treatments.
